Self guided Split-Islands 8 Day

Split and central Dalmatian archipelago
Bike along one of the most beautiful areas on the Croatian coast, locally knows as Splitsko-Dalmatinska county. Spend two evenings in Split, walk along the streets of once great and important Roman site, with historical sites dating back to 300 A.C. Today Split is capital for Splisko Dalmatinska county and second biggest town in Croatia. Enjoy  quite roads of almost rural island Šolta, discover stone quarries, ancient villages and coastal roads of Brač island, UNESCO World Heritage site of  Stari Grad plain and bike along lavender fields to reach famous and chick town of Hvar, where the bike tour ends.
DAY 1: Split
Upon your arrival in Split you will meet our representative and get familiar with the area; most important sites and dining areas, get your bike fitted and get explanation of all the bike routes and options.
Most important site of Split is Diocletian’s Palace, now recognized on UNESCO’s World heritage list. The locals have their real homes molded in the old walls of the Palace and inside of it you will find numerous cafes and restaurants serving fresh Mediterranean food! In front of the Palace you might enjoy evening walk, along its beautiful waterfront promenade.
Depending on your arrival, you can enjoy easy, car- free 20 km bike ride or take a 80 km loop into the interior of the land.

DAY 2: Island Šolta
After the morning cafe at Splits' waterfront take 1 hour ferry ride to Solta, your first Dalmatian island. Discover and bike the Island of Solta. The biking is done mostly along narrow back roads of small rural villages in the interior of the island and with the visit of couple or more coastal villages. Ride along olive groves and vineyards. Optional visits to honey production site. Spend the evening in Split again tonight.

DAY 3: Island Brač
Today you depart for Island Brač, the biggest and highest of all central Dalmatian islands which will give you plenty of riding choices. Coastal roads, climbs to 780 meters, coastal or inland villages and towns, art galleries, local restaurants, stone masons workshops or even visit to the stone mason school…. Whatever you choose you will have great views on the coast and ride along olive groves and vineyards!

DAY 4: Island Brač
Today you can either choose easy 20 km coastal ride or bike into the interior of the island and visit some of the ancient villages. Visit the coastal towns of Splitska, Postira, Sutivan, Mirca…enjoy the islands lifestyle and great food local Konoba - taverns can offer you. If you want to have bike free day besides visiting the town of Supetar and its cultural monuments you can play tennis, take a massage, go scuba diving, windsurf lessons…

Day 5: Golden horn - Bol
We suggest riding to the south side of the island and visiting unique beach Zlatni rat (golden horn), near the town of Bol. The sea water on that beach is crystalline, fresh and simply beautiful!  It can get quite busy on Zlatni rat but there are few other more quiet beaches nearby. Later afternoon you will have transfer to the town Jelsa, Island Hvar.

Day 6: Island Hvar
Welcome to island Hvar. Jelsa is old fisherman village, where you base for Island Hvar will be. Today we suggest easy loop ride around the UNESCO site of Stari Grad. Stari Grad (Old town) is an ancient Greek colony dating back to 400 B.C. Besides historical sites you will discover quite charming towns and roads where you will be biking, passing along lavender fields and olive groves. Our suggestion is 30 km loop which can be extended to 50 or more kilometers.
Distance biked: 0-30 km, extra ride 80 km,
Accommodation: private apartments, Jelsa, Hvar
Highlights: Jelsa, Vrboska and many small villages, Stari Grad, UNESCO site of Stari Grad plain, museums, beaches
Day 7: Hvar
For the final ride of your self guided tour we suggest riding to the town of Hvar. The road you are taking today has most probably best scenery you can imagine; Island Hvar from both sides, small islets in front of Hvar town, Solta, Brac, Split, Stari Grad plain, Zlatni rat beach, lavender fields, olive groves. As you can imagine it includes a climb to 400 meters, where you can refresh yourself in local restaurant.

Highlights: Hvar town, lavender groves, beautiful hill top ride with views on Split, surrounding islands and Adriatic sea
Day 8: End
The tour ends after the ferry ride to Split!

This tour can start any day during the whole year. It starts and ends in Split town, which has international airport 25 km away from the very centre.  We highly suggest spring (end of March till mid June)  and fall(mid September till beginning of November) for serious  biking(daily distance of 50 km or more). If biking is not the only reason for chossing this tour, the swimming season usually starts late in May and can last till middle of October. Even in the highest tourist months of July and August, you will be able to find your own little private beach on the islands you will be visiting.
