HVAR HALF MARATHON

Yesterday on the island of Hvar a 22 km half-marathon took a place, starting from Stari Grad and finishing in Hvar Town. The first half of the race was uphill with an elevation of up to 400 m above sea level, and then back down, following the coast line and giving the runners amazing sea views complete with sunset. Every kilometre was marked, with water stations at 5, 10 and 15km. There was great participation in this second half-marathon,with 108 registered runners and even our Hvar Adventure skipper, Riccardo Kuhar, went for it. He completed the race in 1 hour and 47 minutes, and as the finish line was set up right in the middle of the town centre, every runner got a large clapping ovation from people watching the race in all the surrounding cafe bars.

After the race, dinner and award ceremony took place in restaurant “Delfin” in Hvar town. We hope to keep this race a tradition and have its good vibes going for manz more years, and as the slogan of the race said, “For Run For Fun!”.

OFFICE CLIMB

In our Hvar Adventure office loads of people pass through every day, sailors, free – climbers, kayakers, cyclists … one thing they all have in common is a love for sport, nature and fun. We decided, one night, to make our little office into a free-climbing fun zone, so we organised a free-climbing competition. As our office is located in an old stone house, what better place to climb than the office walls! We were climbing the office walls, back and forwards, up and down, with people joining in our fun with big smiles and having a go as well, it was great!

After a while, standing outside the office door and looking at the house and the balcony on the top floor, the decision was made; we have to climb that as well! With a good rope and a couple of strong sailing knots, our climbers were going up and down while the crowd was getting bigger every second, cheering them up! At the end of the night, the whole thing turned into a mini HA climbing fest. We even had young kids, just starting in this sport, having a go at climbing our office walls! One thing is for sure, we need to do this again, there is no better fun than a a spontaneous night with people having a great time!

KAYAK ADVENTURE – HVAR- VIS

Kayaking is something special for us here at Hvar Adventure; for us it is pure love, and such a close and intimate connection to the sea. And in kayaking – as in every sport – there is always that spirit of adventure and an urge to push the boundaries and do something bigger and better, some new challenge…

The Island of Vis, standing proudly farthest from the coast of all the inhabited Croatian islands – in some mysterious and magical way – always seemed like a big challenge to us. This island, that was inhabited since the time of the Neolithic period, now has two towns, Vis and Komiza – located on opposite sides of the island. The island is also known as being an ex-military base, and it’s heart is deeply penetrated with numerous tunnels and bases. The open water surrounding this pristine island – because of its variable and changable weather conditions – is called “Vis Ocean”. Looking at it every day whilst kayaking past the Pakleni islands, the decision was finally made – we have to kayak from Hvar to Vis. With great respect to the Sea Gods we started our journey from Kržina Luka, and set off to our first destination on Vis, Stončica Bay. Finally arriving in Stončica, our kayaking adventure around Vis island started. The first day we followed the South coast of the island, passing by beautiful bays, and even a war with wasps in Vela Smokova Bay seemed like a game on this island of unspoiled nature.

The island of Vis has many islets surrounding it, and Budikovac was chosen as the place for us to spend our first night. The next day we continued our journey, following the South side of Vis, reaching another islet, Ravnik – home of the famous Green Cave. In the ceiling of the cave there is a hole, which, at noon, allows light to penetrate through it and creates a magical scene, bathing the interior in swathes of green and silver, making the place look like something from a fairy tale. Kayaking from Ravnik back to Vis, still following the South side, provided us with yet more amazing scenery – a 3km long stretch of cliffs, from Taleška Vela to Gnjilina Bay – breathtaking scenery that made us think for a few moments that we were in Cambodia or Thailand! Reaching the horn Stupišće, on the South West tip of the island, we called it a day, and found an abandoned military base house – where we stretched our hammocks and spent a night in complete silence and mystery.

Our final day started with kayaking to Komiža Bay. Visiting the picturesque old fishermens village of Komiža is always a pleasing experience, and fills us with warm feelings – arriving there by kayak, all the way from Hvar, felt really special for us! We continued our journey following the North coast of the island, passing by Tito’s war tunnels, and finally reaching the town of Vis. We were supposed to spend that night on the island, but beeing blessed with such great weather, we made our decision to kayak in the night from Vis back to Hvar. Kayaking in complete darkness and silence, whilst aiming for a tiny light in the distance, we reached Hvar after 3.5 hours – such time even some boats would be proud of! This adventure, and the amazing circle we made around the island of Vis, made us all think how much nature and kayaking can help us to appreciete this beautiful Adriatic jewel.

NEW HIKING ROUTES ON HVAR ISLAND

Croatia has such huge potential for hiking routes, due to its long summers, mild winters, and beautiful nature. At the moment (spring time) hiking is the perfect activity – temperatures are still not so high, the days are long, and nature is waking up all around us. On the islands there are so many unmarked routes that are still waiting for their paths to be walked through. This spring, members of the alpine societies Mosor, Split and Vis, were spending some time on the island of Hvar marking out new routes, that are now waiting for a last check from the officers of the HGSS – the Croatain mountain rescue society – and also the recording of these same routes with GPS, to make maps and improve Hvars active tourism offer. Hvar is such a beautiful island, offering such a variety of different experiences – from crystal seas, well known night life, and famous restaurants – to the chance of escaping deep into its heart, and discovering hidden ancient abandoned villages by hiking. Make sure if you visit this island to set aside some time for trekking!

NEW KAYAKS ARRIVE TO OUR OFFICE

Hvar Adventure is taking it’s customer satisfaction seriously, therefore we are constantly trying to upgrade our offers. SUMMER OFFERS FROM SPLIT

2 WORLDS ONE PICTURE

Looking through some photos of last year, this one always catches our attention. This picture was taken by National Geographic photographer Aaron Huey. He captured both worlds in a single picture, below and above sea level, but really for us, it is just one world and that barrier doesn’t exist. We love to sail, swim, kayak, snorkel…the sea is just something special for us we can’t live without. Days are getting warmer, easter is behind us, summer is about to kick in…time to get back to doing what we love the most!

FILIP JURISIC YOUNG CROATIAN SAILING HOPE

There are many young Croatian hopes in the competitive sailing world, but one name we have been keeping a close eye on is Filip Jurišić, Croatian junior champion. Filip grew up on Hvar and started sailing from as long as he can remember, and thanks to his parents his passion and love for sailing will always be a big part of his life. At the moment there is a world cup regatta on Palma de Mallorca, where Filip sailed his way into the Golden Final Laser group. For more information about this regatta, and Filip, see here .
