5 Day sailing tour Hvar-Pakleni-Komiza-Bisevo-Lastovo-Mljet-Korcula

DAY 1 HVAR – PAKLENI ISLANDS – KOMIZA (Vis)

After indulging yourself in local wine, cocktails or just coffee, we leave the town of Hvar in the morningand sail off to the Pakleni islands archipelago,a labyrinth of several smaller islands that offer perfectbays for swimming and snorkelling.

We arrive during late afternoon in Komiza, on the island of Vis, and spend the night there. Vis is the most outerly lying larger Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. Its turbulent history goes back to thetime of Neolithics, through the Greek period to the time when Venice was governing the island. After the 2nd WW it was closed to the public, due to it’s use as a military base for the Yugoslav army. After Croatia’s independence, Vis today is an island proud of its limpid waters and protected submarine world, rich with sunken ships and magic marine images that have been hidden for years.

DAY 2 KOMIZA (Vis) – BISEVO (Blue Cave) – LASTOVO

After spending the night in Komiza we continue towards the small island of Bisevo. Its area is 5.8 km, and it has only 19 inhabitants. The island has several caves, the most famous being the “Blue Cave”, which is accessible since 1884, and only by boat. It is 18 meters long, 6 meters deep and 6 meters high. The cave’s entrance is only 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide. Around 10am to 1pm, the sunbeams that penetrate through the submarine opening in the Blue Cave reflect from the white bottom floor and colour the cave in blue, and objects in the water in silver. The sight is magical.

After visiting the cave we will sail towards island Lastovo. We stay overnight on Lastovo island. Lastovo is the furthest inhabited island in the region. Small and protected, it is now a nature reserve.

DAY 4 & 5 MLJET – KORCULA – HVAR

After Mljet we sail towards Korcula. The old city is surrounded by walls, and the streets are arranged in a herringbone pattern allowing the free circulation of air while at the same time offering protection against strong winds. Korcula is tightly built on a promontory that guards the narrow sound between the island and the mainland. Building outside the walls was forbidden until the 18th century, and the wooden drawbridge was only replaced in 1863.

All of Korcula’s narrow streets are stepped with the notable exception of the street running alongside the southeastern wall. The street is called the Street of Thoughts as one did not have to worry about the steps. We will stay overnight in the marina in Korcula.
